Hey all yugi-nerds on the wiki! I'm going to be starting a series of tutorials here, to hopefully make you a better duelist! (and maybe actually a challenge for me, I mean...*hugs his 89% win ratio)

In this post, I'll be listing off some terms that us modern YGO players use now. We no longer use terms such as "return to the deck", that's stupid, instead, we use these hip new phrases!

  • Pop: Using a card effect to destroy a card(s) on the field.
  • Spin: Using a card effect to return a card(s) from the field to the deck.
  • Bounce: Using a card effect to send a card(s) from the field to it's owners hand/extra deck.
  • Search: Using a card effect to add a card(s) from your deck to your hand.
  • Dump: Using a card effect to send a card(s) from your deck to your graveyard.
  • Mill: Using a card effect to send cards from the top of the deck to the graveyard.
  • Excavate: Using a card effect to look at a certain amount of cards from your deck, and either re-arrange them, send them to the grave or add them to your hand (varies by card).
  • Swing: Attacking a face-down monster your opponent controls.
  • Drop: Summoning a monster.
  • Ditch: Discarding a card.
  • Stall: Using a card effect to delay the game.
  • Burn: Using a card effect that inflicts direct damage to your opponent.
  • Going Plus: Activating a card/card combination that results in you having more cards in your hand than you had at the start of the card/card combonation.
  • Going Neg (Negative): Activating a card/card combination that results in you having less cards in your hand than you had at the start of the card/card combonation.
  • Top-Deck: Drawing a card from the top of your deck during your draw phase that opens up a potential play.
  • Sack: Drawing a card from the top of your deck during your draw phase while you're at a disadvantage, that eventually leads to you winning the duel.
  • OTK (One Turn Kill): Ending the duel in one turn, while your opponent has 8,000 life points.
  • FTK (First Turn Kill): Ending the duel on the first turn.
  • Broken: A card that you consider to be overpowered, and should be on the banlist.
